John Constantine is a chaos magician and occult detective from Liverpool, England. He is cynical and pragmatic, and is willing to make sacrifices and morally grey choices to ensure the safety of himself and the world, making him an anti-hero. He is also a friend of the Chief, and by extension, the Doom Patrol.
Constantine was contacted by A.R.G.U.S. director Amanda Waller to pursue and contain the rogue prisoner Enchantress, the mission led to him assembling other mystical individuals to comprise the "Justice League Dark".

Meeting Niles Caulder[]
Sometime in his career Constantine met and befriended the Chief. Together they faced the Cult of the Unwritten Book, managing to momentarily defeat them. And at some point, Constantine met Baphomet and Kipling fell in love with her.
Botched exorcism[]
In 2010, Constantine was called in to exorcise a demon known as Nergal from the body of a young girl, Astra Logue. The exorcism failed and Astra was sent to Hell.
The Decreator[]
Constantine discovers that the Cult of the Unwritten Book had returned and decided to ask the Chief for help. He meets the Doom Patrol and discovers that Niles disappeared and invoked Baphomet. they discover that they must look for Elliot and opens a portal for them to go rescue him. They succeed and Constantine puts a spell on Elliot to prevent the cult from reading it and offered to kill and then burn him.
He planned to kill Elliot but was stopped and decided to summon Baphomet to help them. After the Decreator's defeat, he was offered to help in defeating Mr. Nobody but refused.

In 2021, Constantine was summoned to perform an exorcism on a British princess, who was suspected to harbor a demon. It was revealed however that the demon was instead possessing her fiance, and was sent back to hell.
He was then confronted by Dream who was in search for his pouch. They then discover it was in possession of his ex-girlfriend.

- Magic: Constantine is a highly skilled sorcerer, having been practicing magic since he was a teen. He quickly mastered all the magic that Europe had to offer and went to America. John is skilled in various forms of magic, most notably Black Magic, a dangerous and malevolent sort of magic that is known to come at a high cost to its practitioner.
- Magical awareness:
- Black magic: He along with Zatanna was taught black magic, a form of magic known for having a high cost to it's practitioners.
- Astral projection: Constantine is able to create astral projections of himself.
- Energy construct creation: Constantine can use magic to form solid energy constructs, such as shields or bridges.
- Energy projection: Constantine is able to use magic to project multiple forms of energy.
- Eldritch blast
- Electro-blast: Constantine is capable of using magic to project bolts of electricity.
- Photokinesis: Constantine was able to create a burst of blinding light, which was powerful enough to harm a group of vampires.
- Chlorokinesis: Constantine was even able to control Swamp Thing.
- Chronokinesis: Constantine knows a blood magic spell that allows him to temporarily stop time.

- Illusion casting: Constantine is able to create illusions to fool people. He was able to trick Darkseid into thinking he was dead, and cast a universe wide illusion, convincing Darkseid that it was a dead dimension he had already consumed.
- Invisibility: Constantine is capable of turning himself invisible and cloaking items.
- Cloaking spell: Constantine used a cloaking spell to hide Elliot.
- Disintegration: Constantine was able to use magic to incinerate a cultist.
- Mind control: Constantine mentioned that he has rewritten his landlord's brain to think that he'd had already paid rent.

- Power absorption: Constantine knew a spell that allowed him to temporarily steal the powers of Shazam.
- Pyrokinesis: Constantine is capable of using magic to manipulate fire. He is able to engulf his hands in flames, as well as turn the small flame from his lighter into a flamethrower.

- Spirit ward creation: John knows how to create protection circles that once entered, he cant be harmed.

- in the comics, John Constantine was replaced by a character named Willoughby Kipling due to editorial issues in the Doom Patrol comics. In the DCEU however, he filled in the role that he was supposed to be in.
