John Stewart was an architect from Detroit, who was chosen to become a Green Lantern. He and two others were chosen at the same time and were trained by another human Lantern, Hal Jordan.
In just a short time after his recruitment, the Green Lantern Corps were in effect and he became a major player in an attack by the Manhunters and Sinestro.
