Man of Tomorrow is a 2027 superhero film based on the DC Comics superhero Superman. A sequel to Man of Steel and Man of Steel: Enter the Knight, it is the 38th film in the DC Extended Universe and the FIFTH installment of Arc 4 - Darkseid. It was released on November 1, 2027.

The film introduces Supergirl, Alura In-Ze, Irma Jan-Al, Brainiac, and Doomsday into the DCEU, with Michael Shannon reprising his role as General Zod for a flashback scene.

Synopsis[]

Earth is visited by Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, who warns the heroes of the incoming attack of Brainiac.

Plot[]

  • Prologue

1982, Kandor. Brainiac had made his way to Krypton and is now hovering above Kandor. General Zod and the Sword of Rao with the help of Irma Jan-Al attempts to evict him but failed and Kandor was no more, and Kara Zor-El had lost her home.

  • Main plot

Back in the present, on top of a building, a girl named Regan is contemplating suicide just before she is visited by Superman, who cheered her up and took her flying through the skies. Deep in the cosmos, Kara Zor-El is awakened by Brainiac, who has utilized a Kryptonite to withhold her powers, Brainiac tells her that her cousin, Kal, is still alive and on Earth. By pure adrenaline rage, Kara was able to resist the kryptonite and battled Brainiac. She then goes to find her pet Beppo, and steals Brainiac's navigating device in order to find her way to Earth.

A couple of weeks later back on Earth, the Kent family joined by Superboy are celebrating Jon Kent's 6th birthday at the Kent farm. A news report on TV shows a mysterious alien girl who bears the House of El logo on her uniform. Clark and Lois discusses how they are going to address that and Superboy says that he can help to escort her.

Next day, news reports stated that Lex Luthor is being released on parole to help out a classified government project. In real-time, Lex is offered a job to do experiments on the body of General Zod, he accepts, and tells them that he needs access to the Scout Ship 0344. Concurrently, Superboy meets Kara for the first time, who mistakes him for Kal. He explains everything and takes her to see Karen Starr first before meeting Kal, she explains that Kara Zor-El is from an alternate universe. Kara reunites with her baby cousin, and for the next hours they chat, she tells him about how Brainiac took Kandor and that her family relocated to Graxos V, where she developed her superpowers, and where Brainiac invaded AGAIN. After her family was killed by the Brainiac probes, she was enraged and attacked Brainiac, who defeated and imprisoned her.

Later, Superman decides to pursue Brainiac with Supergirl, and they took off to space, where they found out Brainiac was already at the edge of the solar system. They both confront Brainiac, and a fight breaks out that ends in Superman being incapacitated. Back on Earth, Luthor had successfully accessed the Scout Ship using Zod's fingerprints, in the Genesis Chamber of the ship, he finds the command center and luckily activates it, the ship offers Luthor control and they tell him about everything the ship has information of, including 100,000 different worlds.

In the Watchtower, they detected Brainiac's ship getting close, and warned the Justice Society of America. Back in the ship, Superman is awakened, with tentacles violating his body, he and Brainiac exchange words before Superman manages to break out of his restrains and fights Brainiac. Back in the Scout Ship, Luthor has taken General Zod's body into the Genesis Chamber to prepare him for metamorphosis. Outside, citizens of Metropolis (among them Martian Manhunter) all look up at the sky as a glowing green alien ship descends into the city. Elsewhere, Wonder Woman and the Green Lanterns sees the news and made their way to Metropolis. The final battle begins.

Upon examining the planet, Brainiac discovers a secret hidden within it. He then decides to bottle every city on the planet before extracting the Anti-Life Equation. Brainiac deploys his probes and they began attacking the civilians. Superboy, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, the JSA, and the Green Lanterns all engage in battle to fight the probes and to help the civilians. In the ship, Superman is still fighting Brainiac and his probes, before deciding to go out and help the people instead. The probes then began to prepare extraction posts in order to shrink the city, but were stalled by the heroes. In Metropolis, power all over the city began to go out as electric charges began to emanate from Scout Ship 0344. Superman goes to investigate and finds Luthor inside, they exchange words and Superman began rambling about how they should've never let him out, before asking him what has he done, Luthor then unleashes his creation, Doomsday.

Doomsday began to wreak havoc and confronts Superman, they both get out of the Scout Ship onto the city, where the heroes all witness in surprise, Superman fights Doomsday some more and the heroes all band together to lay waste on Doomsday, firing all of their powers. However, Doomsday adapted and harnessed the attacks, exploding a power surge and growing spikes. All of the Brainiac probes then attempted to take down Doomsday, only to be easily destroyed. All of the heroes continue fighting Doomsday as he became a bigger problem. In Brainiac's ship, Supergirl detaches Brainiac from his ship and takes him into space, where he withers away and Supergirl lands a final blow to kill him. Before she did though, Brainiac activates the Solar-Aggressor, the weapon then makes its way to the sun in order to destroy it, but however was stopped by Supergirl.

Supergirl returns to Earth to join the battle against Doomsday, Superman tells her that he deduced that it was definitely of Kryptonian origin, she tells him that Brainiac stored many Kryptonites in his ship, it was the only way they can defeat him. Back in the battle, Doomsday is attacked by the JSA and he accidentally destroys Doctor Fate's Helmet of Fate, lessening his powers. The heroes were overwhelmed by Doomsday's unimaginable power and they began to grow tired. As Brainiac's ship had lost its' controller, it began to power down and would eventually fall. Atom Smasher sees this and safely put down Brainiac's ship so that it wouldn't cause an impact. Supergirl arrives to collect kryptonite with the help of the Green Lanterns while Superman and the heroes continue to fight Doomsday. When most of the heroes were exhausted and injured, Supergirl plans on killing Doomsday using a kryptonite bomb created by Brainiac, until the weak Superman insists and goes on to kill Doomsday instead.

Superman dies in Lois' arms and the heroes gather around him. Meanwhile, a SWAT team infiltrates the Scout Ship and finds Lex Luthor with a hologram of Darkseid, indicating that Luthor had communicated with him.

  • Epilogue

Metropolis stand silent, and Daily Planet is printing the news about Superman's death. A large crowd gathers to honor Superman at Heroes Park. The next day, a state funeral is held for Superman, with many of the heroes in attendance. Bruce Wayne appears in the distance, joined by Diana, who welcomed him back. Leaving the funeral with the Titans, Cyborg began to glitch and writhes in pain as he witnessed Darkseid preparing for an invasion.

In the mid-credits scene, Superboy invites Kara to the Fortress of Solitude, where he shows her a red and blue suit akin to Kal's.

The film was announced in 2024, 9 years after the last sequel. It was announced that Supergirl and Brainiac would make their debut in the DCEU in this film.

Ellie Bamber and Michael Fassbender were cast as Supergirl and Brainiac in 2025. and the Justice Society of America were confirmed to appear in the film.

Filming began in late 2025.

Trivia[]

  • The story takes inspirations and plot points from Superman: Brainiac.
  • The pod where Kara Zor-El was kept inside Brainiac's skull ship stopped her aging, which explains her youthful appearance despite being imprisoned for 39 years (1987-2026).
  • Kara Zor-El doesn't wear her iconic Supergirl suit, she wears an armored suit akin to Jor-El's in Man of Steel. She gets her iconic suit at the end of the movie
  • Power Girl was originally present at Jon's 6th birthday, but it was decided that she was busy with Starrware Industries matters.
  • In the original draft, Doomsday was created and released by Brainiac instead of Luthor.
  • The way Brainiac shrink cities is that the probes were deployed to install extraction posts around the city in order to activate the force fields.
  • The planet Kara relocated was considered between Graxos V or Jekuul.
  • Beppo and Koko's fight was added for comedy.
