J'onn J'onzz was a Martian royalty known by humans as the Martian Manhunter, as a rite of passage before his time to rule a kingdom, J'onn traveled to Earth, where he posed as a Lieutenant General named Calvin Swanwick in the United States Army, and later as Secretary of Defense.
He was present at the time of the Black Zero Event in 2011, holding the position of head of United States Northern Command, and being tasked with preventing any possible threats towards the United States and her interests. Hence, he formed an alliance with the alien hero Superman in order to defeat the extreme threat posed by General Zod and the Sword of Rao.
He met with Bruce Wayne to reveal who he truly is, and warns him of the imminent threats that may come after Lex Luthor's reckoning. He also helped Superman and Wonder Woman locate metahumans to recruit into their Justice League. Two years after this they allied to stop a waging war between the Amazons and the Atlanteans.

Martian Physiology: Martian Manhunter is among the most powerful beings on Earth, he possesses many of the powers of Superman. The Martian's physiology would seem to be composed of a complex molecular chain that resembles polymer bonds but with the ability to be altered at will. The Martian Manhunter can change his mass, color, relative shape, imitating even clothing if desired. His arsenal of powers includes:
- Shape-Shifting: Martians have psionic control of their physical for down to the molecular level. This allows them to a form of shape-shifting that allows them to mimic other forms, elongate aspects of their body, increase or decrease their physical size, and so on.
- Size Alteration: As an extension of their shape-shifting abilities martians can alter their size with ease, being able to shrink or grow to gigantic size.
- Invisibility: Martians can cause the biopolymers in their bodies to lose their ability to reflect light, making the Martians invisible to normal light and human sight.
- Phasing: Martians can go through solid matter.
- Superhuman Strength: Martians possess vast levels of superhuman strength and are among the few races that are able to match Kryptonians in terms of raw strength. Martians can easily shatter reinforced concrete and steel, lift and carry houndreds of tons with ease and deliver incredible damage with their blows.

- Superhuman Durability: Martians possess high levels of durability that make them nigh-invulnerable to all forms of damage. Martians can withstand high caliber bullets, powerful energy blast and kinetic impacts without suffering damage.

This power can also enable them to reverse the effects of amnesia or psychological brainwashing.
