Task Force X, colloquially known as the Suicide Squad, is a government-sanctioned expendable black-ops unit founded by Amanda Waller that enlists incarcerated supervillains to undertake high-risk, covert missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences. Normally, the team is only used when all the more conventional methods fail.

The team's first mission was to infiltrate a scientific experiment known as Project Cadmus in Metropolis. They succeeded and their sentences were lessened and they were given special privileges in return for their efforts.

In the Flashpoint timeline, the task Force X is sent to fight against the Amazons and Atlanteans.

The team was later reformed with new and returning members with a mission to invade and topple Gorilla Grodd's rule over the nation, that mission ended in Amanda Waller releasing the surviving members.

In 2026, the team were deployed once again to retrieve a piece of Apokoliptian technology, fighting off the Secret Six and former member Harley Quinn with her girlfriend Poison Ivy who are all after the same thing.

Harley, Deadshot, and King Shark grouped back together to fight in Darkseid's Second Invasion of Earth, ending with all of them being killed by Superman.

In a possible reality where the war between the Amazons and the Atlanteans escalated to that of World War III, the Task Force X were deployed.

The mission was a failure as they were ambushed by the Atlantean military and were brutally killed.
