Ben Affleck announced at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con that there was going to be a Batman film in the DCEU and that he was going to sign on directing it. However, Warner Bros. was initially against the idea, considering that no director in filmmaking history has ever directed himself playing Batman. Affleck fought long and hard for the directing position, while staying true to his idealism. After much controversy with Warner Bros., Affleck was granted permission to make a solo Batman film.
Filming began September 25, 2018 and wrapped up until December 8 the same year.
