After suffering an incident in which he was struck by a mysterious lightning, Barry Allen became the fastest man alive. With his new superpowers, he vows to guard Central City from the terrors of the Rogues and any criminal that dares to disrupt the peace.
Plot[]
- "Hey mom, can I uh.. run home?"
"You wanna run home? Absolutely not, it's like a mile from here."
"Aw come on, cars are so boring I just wanna move. I just might beat you to it."
"Fine, be safe, alright?" - ―Barry and Nora Allen
In 5th grade, Barry Allen competes in a track race, which he placed second. At the end of school, Barry and his mom both plan on going home, with Barry suggesting that he runs home to see if he can get there before she does with her car, she originally refuses but eventually agrees, and they go on their ways. On arrival at home however, Barry finds a horrifying scene, his mom dead on the floor and his dad unconscious next to her, with the room being covered in birthday celebratory decorations. As he cries, Barry hears a voice telling him happy birthday, Barry turns around but sees nothing but a flash of red lightning. Later, while the cops are on the scene, his father is escorted out on handcuffs, Barry sees this and insists that his father is innocent while he gets arrested either way.
In the present day, Barry, now a forensic scientist, arrives late to a crime scene, there, he met Picture News reporter Iris West for the first time. After reporting, Iris talks to Barry, asking him about the case, as well as some particle accelerator experiment to control the weather that's happening at S.T.A.R. Labs. Barry tells her that he knows little as that is not his field but tells her that he does know about how it will affect the weather conditions.
- "You know what criminal justice for me would be? My son not wasting his life. You're a brilliant man. I can’t sit here and watch you run in place in Central City for some old dude who’s not going anywhere. I want you to make your own future. You’re living in the past. Make your own future."
- ―Henry Allen
Later, Barry visits his father in prison and tells him about the advancements of his work and how he is close to proving his innocence, Harry laments this, saying he should not waste his life and that he should live his life without the burden of trying to prove his innocence.
Barry goes to S.T.A.R. Labs to collect some of his stuff, and he sees that the particle accelerator is being ready to be activated, led by chief scientist Silas Stone. Barry goes home to his hideout, an abandoned warehouse he appropriated where he has this conspiracy board and chemicals from S.T.A.R. Labs. While continuing work, the experiment on S.T.A.R. Labs does not seem to go well as it emitted a shock wave and the weather outside becomes more violent, causing lightning storms all over Central City. As he was checking around his chemical storage cabinet, a lightning struck inside and the cabinet fell over him, drenching him in the chemicals, as he was getting up, a second lightning struck Barry that knocked him over.
On the next day, Barry wakes up feeling fine and has no injury whatsoever, he realizes he's late again and goes to the Central City Police Department to submit his findings. On his way, he realizes he's running much faster than he usually does, and actually arrives on time. In the precinct, he meets with his colleagues Patty Spivot and David Singh and they talk about catching the Rogues who have been terrorizing the city.
Later that day, he visits S.T.A.R. Labs to check up on what happened, and he met Iris once again, she told him about how the experiment when awry and an individual at the lab was severely mutilated by the incident and several scientists were killed along with Elinore Stone, another scientist and Silas' wife. She also tells him about how her brother was hit by one of the lightning last night. While talking to her, he noticed a bullet heading straight to Iris' head, he then quickly tackles her and the bullet hit the outskirts of the lab, freezing everything. Captain Cold and the Rogues have arrived. As everyone was scrambling to escape, Barry takes the injured Iris and runs with her, he runs in with Captain Boomerang and Mirror Master, with his new superspeed powers, he avoids the Rogues by run past them and successfully takes Iris to safety[1].
Feeling like he should do something with his new superpowers, he meets with his fellow forensic friend Frank Curtis and tells him about his new powers. Barry then shows him his new powers by running a whole track in 3 seconds. He then runs again with his maximum speed but that caused his shoes to be ruined. Frank then gives him new boots by Wayne Research Institute made to be indestructible. When that worked, Frank decides to create a suit that Barry can wear, with fabric from the Wayne Research Institute.
